Pharisaical Judaism

Pharisaical Judaism or Romaniote Judaism was originally of two kinds, Hillelite and Shammuti but Shammuti Judaism fell by the wayside in the early 2nd century as Hillelite Judaism came out on top. Hillelite Judaism was more Esoteric while Shammuti Judaism was more Nationalistic. While Hillelite Judaism thrived among Ashkenazim, Shammuti attitudes survive among Maimonideans. In recent decades Maiminidean attitudes have taken over much of what remained of the post Holocaust Hillelite communities largely thanks to the Chabad Lubavitcher movement.
