Acting in the name of religion

Is the religion a necesity or a human invention for explain the world? We know that the ancient civilitations used to have people for explain the sourronding and hostile natural wild world. Fats are sturborn. Many people don't bilieve in the religion because of behaviour of priest and hierarchs but others have a strong necesity of believe. Why?
